Freedom of speech is the bedrock of a free and fair civilisation. I want this community to be a place where ideas are discussed and evaluated through meritocracy.

I’ve created this community so that we can explore the ideas of one another with a mindset of ‘what if it is true,’ or ‘what if I’m wrong.’ Expressing new information on our journeys within each idea to better understand each other and the world. I’ve made this community subscriber exclusive in the hopes that by doing so we can keep out the inflammatory/ad hominem/troll behaviour, and engage in elevated discourse that blooms ideas that better us as people, and citizens of our broader communities.

Growing this community is going to take work, and that means that we are going to have to cultivate it. Inevitably there will be times where we have to be discerning of the inclusion of certain individuals, just as we would in our own homes and family. I have a few simple ideas that might help in mitigating any untoward elements.

1. First and foremost, please use real names. Real people garner real connections. As much as creative screen names and cat/anime avatars are fun, we wouldn’t want to have people who are always in their cosplay character.
2. Respectful discourse: Don’t spam, or blow up the feed with self promotional or inflammatory attacks. If your personal content is relevant, that works but let’s not turn this into a bulletin board in the campus dorm room.
3. Add to the discussion not to the fight.
4. Let’s try our best to leave the playground attacks in the playground.
5. Don’t post pornography, graphic images or anything like that, period. If we see it, we take it out.
6. Post about anything interesting, it doesn’t have to be only the things I talk about.
7. I don’t agree with everything posted or said here, and sometimes I will even change my mind about what I say.
8. Building a community takes work as any relationship, so as we grow together let’s be understanding and most of all have fun!

My goal is to get people to see how important freedom of speech and thought is. We are nothing without it. I hope that being a part of this community empowers you to see the inherent value in this idea.
